Inspect and Clean Vacuum Chuck Components

The procedure that follows gives the instructions on how to clean the components that follows on the Hylo machine:

  • The vacuum chuck
  • The vacuum chuck inlet filter
  • The vacuum chuck O-ring.

Prepare the Machine

  1. Home XYZ.
  2. Lower the Z-axis by 300 mm.
  3. Wait until the build chamber, build platform, and hot ends are at room temperature.
  4. Open the build chamber door.
  5. Push the E-stop button.
  6. Turn the power OFF with the ON/OFF switch found on the front panel of the machine.
  7. Turn the main disconnect switch in the OFF (O) position.

Clean Vacuum System Elements

Wait until all machine components are at room temperature before you continue. Some machine components can be hot if the machine was recently used. Failure to do so can cause injuries.

Remove the Vacuum Chuck Inlet Filter

  1. Remove the build platform from the vacuum chuck.
  2. Use the small flathead screwdriver to carefully remove the vacuum chuck inlet filter. Vacuum Chuck Inlet Filter

Clean the Vacuum Chuck and Vacuum Chuck Inlet Filter

Do not use compressed air to clean the vacuum chuck top surfaces and/or channels. The use of compressed air can cause damage to the vacuum circuit and/or machine component(s).

  1. Soft bristle brush, to clean the components that follow:
    • The vacuum chuck top surface
    • The vacuum chuck channels
    • The vacuum chuck inlet filter bore
    • The vacuum chuck inlet filter.
  2. Use the isopropyl alcohol and lint-free rag(s) to clean solvents and/or unwanted materials from the vacuum chuck top surface.
  3. Let surfaces to dry for two minutes.
  4. Make sure that the vacuum chuck and vacuum chuck inlet filter are clean. Do step 1 to 3 as necessary.

Install the Vacuum Chuck Inlet Filter

  1. Carefully install the vacuum chuck inlet filter into the vacuum chuck center bore.
  2. Make sure that the vacuum chuck inlet filter is correctly installed in the vacuum chuck.

Clean the Vacuum Chuck O-Ring

  1. Remove the vacuum chuck O-ring that is found on the outer perimeter of the vacuum chuck. Refer to Replace Vacuum Chuck O-Ring.
  2. Inspect the vacuum chuck O-ring. Replace, if necessary. Refer to Replace Vacuum Chuck O-Ring.
  3. Use the isopropyl alcohol and lint-free rag(s) to clean the vacuum chuck O-ring.
  4. Let the O-ring and build platform dry for two minutes.
  5. Install the vacuum chuck O-ring onto the vacuum chuck outer perimeter. Refer to Replace Vacuum Chuck O-Ring.

Test and Return to Service

  1. Make sure that you remove all the tools from the machine enclosure.
  2. Close the build chamber door.
  3. Turn the main disconnect switch in the ON (1) position.
  4. Turn the power ON with the ON/OFF switch found on the rear panel of the machine.
  5. Release the E-stop button.
  6. Home XYZ.
  7. Install the build platform. Refer to Install Build Platform.
