Build Surface Maintenance

Remove PEI Film

You will need...

  • Water
  • Mild dish soap
  • Paint scraper
  • Acetone or Citrus Degreaser
  • Large bucket or pan chemically resistant to the above solvents
  • Well-ventilated work area
  • Gloves

To remove the PEI film on your plate surface, heat your build plate to 150°C in the printer. Remove the build plate wearing protective gloves, and peel off the PEI film with the aid of a paint scraper. Use the paint scraper to scrape off as much of the hot adhesive residue as possible. Let it cool to room temperature.

Place the entire build plate in a pan or bucket and soak in acetone or citrus degreaser for up to 30 minutes. Make sure you are working in a well-ventilated work area, and refer to the MSDS of the degreaser you are working with to take all necessary safety precautions.

After 30 minutes, remove the build plate and use the paint scraper to remove the remainder of the adhesive residue. Rinse the build plate with water and mild dish soap, and dry fully.
