Personal Protective Equipment

Prepare the Machine

Make sure that there are no prints on the build surface. Remove print(s) before the procedure that follows is started. Failure to do so can cause a collision which can cause damage to the machine component(s).

  1. Unload the filament from the extruder. Refer to Replace Filament.
  2. Home XYZ.
  3. Lower the Z-axis by 300 mm.
  4. Open the build chamber door.
  5. Push the E-stop button.
  6. Turn the power OFF with the ON/OFF switch found on the rear panel of the machine.
    • For AON M2+ (CE) machines:
      Disconnect power to the machine from the local supply disconnecting device.
    • For AON M2+ (R-NZ) machines:
      Disconnect the main power cord from the receptacle.
  7. Wait until the build chamber, build platform and hot ends are at room temperature.

Remove the Extruder

Wait until all the machine components are at room temperature before you continue. Some machine components can be hot if the machine was recently used. Failure to do so can cause injuries.

Detach Extruder Remove Extruder Front Cover

  1. Use the 2.5 mm hex key to remove the extruder top screw (1).
  2. Use the 2 mm hex key to remove the two screws (3) on the front cover found on the extruder assembly.
  3. Carefully remove the extruder assembly from the toolhead plate.

Do not disconnect the cooling loop and electrical cable that are attached to the extruder assembly.

Install the Extruders

If the Extruder pro are installed, make sure to change the extruder motor step-per-mm value. Refer to the Install the Extruder Pro procedure.

Remove Extruder Front Cover

  1. Position the new extruder assembly onto the extruder motor.
  2. Position the extruder assembly onto the toolhead plate. Make sure that the guide post (10) is aligned with the hole (11) in the toolhead plate.
  3. Manually install the two front cover screws (3) through the front cover and into the extruder motor. Do not tighten the two front screws (3) at this point in time.
  4. Position the extruder assembly onto the toolhead plate.
  5. Manually install the extruder top screw (1).
  6. Use the 2.5 mm hex key to lightly tighten the extruder screws. Do not tighten the extruder screws at this point in time.
  7. Use the torque wrench, the 3 mm socket, and the 3 mm hex bit to tighten the extruder screws to 2.0 N·m.
  8. Use the 2 mm hex key to tighten the two front screws (3).
  9. Make sure that the screws that follow are tight:
    • One extruder top screw (1)
    • Two front cover screws (3).

Test and Return to Service

  1. Make sure that you remove all the tools from the build chamber.
  2. Close the build chamber door.
    • For AON M2+ (CE) machines:
      Connect power to the machine from the local supply disconnecting device.
    • For AON M2+ (R-NZ) machines:
      Connect the main power cord to the receptacle.
  3. Turn the power ON with the ON/OFF switch found on the rear panel of the machine.
  4. Release the E-stop button.
  5. Home XYZ.
