Summary

The procedure that follows gives instructions on how to:

  • Inspect the two wiper brushes and the two wiper blades.
  • Clean the two wiper brushes and the two wiper blades.
  • Adjust the heights of the two wiper brushes and the two wiper blades.

Wiper brushes and wiper blades that are clean and in good condition prevent:

  • Clogged hot end(s) and/or nozzle(s).
  • Unwanted material(s) in the print.

Prepare the Machine

Make sure that there are no prints on the build surface. Remove print(s) before the procedure that follows is started. Failure to do so can cause a collision and cause damage to the machine component(s).

  1. Home XYZ.
  2. Open the build chamber door.
  3. Push the E-stop button.
  4. Wait until the build chamber, build platform and hot ends are at room temperature.

Wiper Brush

Inspect and Clean

Wait until all the machine components are at room temperature before you continue. Some machine components can be hot if the machine was recently used. Failure to do so can cause injuries.

Wiper and Brush

  1. Manually move the left (T0) toolhead to the center of the X-axis linear rail.
  2. Inspect the T0 wiper brush (1).
    • Use the brass brush to clean any unwanted polymer found on the wiper brush.
    • Make sure that the bristles on the wiper brush are straight and in good condition. Replace if necessary. Refer to Replace Wiper Brush and Wiper Blade.
  3. Carefully move the selected toolhead nozzle over the wiper brush.

    Make sure that the wiper brush is set to the correct height. A toolhead collision can occur if the wiper brush height is not set correctly.

  4. Make sure that the wiper brush contacts the flat surface of the nozzle. Adjust the wiper brush height, if necessary. Brush Height
  5. Use the 3 mm hex key to make sure that the screw (2) and the wiper brush is tight. Do not tighten too much.
  6. Do steps 2 to 5 for the adjacent wiper brush, if necessary.

Wiper Blade

Inspect and Clean

Nozzle/Blade Contact.

  1. Inspect the T0 wiper blade (3).
  2. Use the isopropyl alcohol and lint-free rag(s) to clean the T0 wiper blade (3).
  3. Make sure that the wiper blade is straight and in good condition. Replace if necessary. Refer to Replace Wiper Brush and Wiper Blade.
  4. Carefully move the selected toolhead nozzle over the wiper blade.

    Make sure that the wiper blade is set to the correct height. A toolhead collision can occur if the wiper blade height is not set correctly.

  5. Make sure that the wiper blade lightly contacts the tip of the nozzle. Adjust the wiper blade height, if necessary.
  6. Use the 2.5 mm hex key to make sure that the two screws (4) and the wiper blade are tight. Do not tighten too much.
  7. Do steps 1 to 6 for the adjacent wiper blade, if necessary.

Test and Return to Service

  1. Make sure that you remove all the tools from the build chamber.
  2. Close the build chamber door.
  3. Release the E-stop button.
  4. Home XYZ.
